Disaster resilience
The Department of Public Works actively promotes the development of disaster resilience through disaster mitigation, response/relief and recovery strategies and policy pertaining to built infrastructure and departmental activities/operations. This is achieved through developing guidelines and providing information to assist governments in improving the disaster resilience of government buildings and infrastructure.
The Disaster Preparedness Group is responsible for developing emergency and disaster preparedness capability across the Department of Public Works, and coordinating the department’s operations with other departments in response to an emergency or disaster affecting communities and government infrastructure. The group has developed guidelines and supporting information aimed at improving disaster resilience.
