End of trip facilities fact sheet

The Department of Public Works, Accommodation Office, as the owner and manager of the government’s owned office portfolio, supports the Queensland Government’s Q2 and healthy lifestyle initiatives through the provision of end of trip facilities in its owned sites.

The end of trip facilities are purpose-built bicycle parking, change room and locker facilities aimed at providing Queensland Government employees with access to appropriate facilities that will encourage staff to participate in activities that support a healthy lifestyle. This includes, but is not limited to, cyclists, joggers and walkers. Access to a facility may also be made available to non-government tenants occupying a Government-owned building.

The facilities are managed by the Accommodation Office, Department of Public Works. The facilities are highly utilised with demand far exceeding availability, particularly for allocation of lockers and access to shower facilities. As such, the facilities must be managed in a fair and equitable manner that provides equal access to all employees and maximises the use of facilities. There is also a requirement to maintain the facilities to a high standard and ensure the safety, comfort and welfare of both users of the facilities and building occupants.

The facilities are therefore governed by the End of trip facilities—terms and conditions and guidelines for use and use is subject to regular audits to identify users who are not utilising the facility at a sufficient level to justify permanent access and full allocation.

Applicants seeking access to an end of trip facility must complete the Application for use of end of trip facilities, and acknowledge that they have read and understood and agree to abide by the End of trip facilities—terms and conditions and guidelines for use. Failure to comply with the End of trip facilities—terms and conditions and guidelines for use may result in termination of access.

There are significant waiting lists for end of trip facilities. The processing of applications, allocation of access and audit of the facilities may be delayed if other urgent work priorities arise. Access to end of trip facilities will be allocated to eligible applicants on a ‘first in, first served’ basis, without consideration of applicants’ positions or departments. If a new facility is opened, priority will be first given to occupants of the building where the facility is located.
